Meet the First-Years! Shelby Barada '14

The Winter Clinic and Information Day this past weekend was a success! We hosted more than 40 high school players from around the country and gave them some tips on how to play great lacrosse and what life as a student-athlete is like at Washington and Lee.
This week we begin checking in with the many First- Years who have joined us for the 2011 season. Let's start by getting to know Shelby Barada (New Canaan, CT/ New Canaan High School).
1.Where do you live on campus?
Shelby:
I live in Davis with a roommate who is a member of the cross country and track teams.
2.What’s your favorite thing to do in Lexington when you’re not in class, in the library or at practice, on or off campus?
Shelby:
When I am not spending time on academics or lacrosse, I love to hang around Graham-Lees in a friend’s room or mosey around D-hall. 3.Now that much of pre-season has passed, what’s the biggest adjustment you’ve had to make?
Shelby:
The biggest adjustment has been losing those three hours of study time. However, this has allowed me to be much more productive because now I utilize the few spare hours of time I have during the day to do all of my work.
4.What are you most looking forward to about season?
Shelby:
I cannot wait to start playing games and for the team to do even better this season then they did last season! Already the team atmosphere has been so great, so I am really looking forward to spending even more time with everyone.
5.Who’s your idol/hero/person you most respect?
Shelby:
The person I most respect is Atticus Finch from Harper Lee’s “To Kill a Mockingbird.”
6.What do you miss most about home?
Shelby:
I really miss family dinners and my mom’s cooking! 7.What’s your favorite tv show?
Shelby:
My favorite TV show has to be Grey’s Anatomy or Bones.
8.What’s your favorite book?
Shelby:
I absolutely LOVE the Harry Potter series, especially “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban,” and “Gone With the Wind.”
9.Who’s your biggest fan?

My parents and siblings are definitely my biggest fans. Whether it is sports, academics, anything, they are always there to cheer me on. 10.Anything else you’d like Generals fans, players and parents to know?
Shelby: I cannot wait for the season ahead!
